Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT), also abbreviated as Shockwave Therapy, is used in our Twickenham clinic. It is clinically proven to treat a range of injuries and our clinicians have over 25 years of experience in treating Shockwave Therapy in Twickenham.
ESWT is a non-invasive, but very safe, treatment that will cause micro-trauma to your tissues to restart the healing process and provide a window of opportunity for your body to heal.
Your clinician will discuss and plan your treatment as we need to ensure that there is a suitable rehabilitation plan working in conjunction with this to ensure full recovery.
Sessions last approximately 10 minutes, they should be approximately 7 days apart and research recommends 3-6 sessions. However, our clinicians will guide you.
The treatment can be painful but you generally experience a reduction in pain levels which can be felt for a few hours after the session. Unfortunately, this will not last and you might experience a post-treatment increase in pain which may last from a few hours to a few days depending on the area being treated and presentation of your symptoms.
