Q&A
What's the most rewarding thing about your role?
Seeing progression in people, whatever that may look like! The goals could range from being able to tie shoelaces without pain again to getting a PB in an event after months of training. It’s always great seeing patient’s shocked expressions when they achieve something they thought was well out of reach!
What inspired you to become a Sports Rehabilitator?
I’d always considered something in this field from an early age, but I tore the meniscus in my right knee during a Judo session when I was about 16 years old. I opted for the non-surgical route at the time (as surgery sounded a bit scary!) and the rehabilitation really paid off!
What's the most adventurous thing you've ever done?
My round-the-world trip after I graduated from university. Flights booked, no accomodation planned! I managed to pack in Skydiving / Bungee Jumping / Scuba Diving / Skiing and drove the length and breadth of New Zealand too.
What's your favourite exercise or stretch to recommend to patients?
I love a deadlift. There are loads of variations, but it’s such a great exercise to help the glutes, hamstrings, quads, lower back, grip strength, abdominal bracing among other things. It’s also got ‘real world’ applications into sport or if you’re lifting boxes, kids etc.
If you could only eat one cuisine for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Indian. I absolutely love the flavours and spices! I cook a lot of Indian inspired dishes at home.
How do you unwind after a busy day?
I run. I’ve got a nice route home via Richmond Bridge, the towpath and Teddington Lock.
