What is Pelvic Floor Ultrasound?
Pelvic floor ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive assessment method used to examine the muscles and structures within the pelvis. At our clinic, our specialist pelvic health physiotherapist, Tracey Matthews, uses pelvic ultrasound alongside a functional assessment to get a full picture of how your pelvic floor, bladder and abdominal muscles are functioning.
Unlike diagnostic hospital scans, this form of ultrasound is focused on evaluating movement and function rather than identifying and underlying problem. Using pelvic ultrasound we can assess your muscles in real time, meaning we can provide you with the most accurate advice we can regarding exercise, daily activities and management techniques.
Pelvic Ultrasound
What does a pelvic ultrasound assessment include?
- Live ultrasound imaging of the pelvic floor and abdominal wall

- Screening for abdominal muscle separation (diastasis recti)
- Education around bladder and bowel control techniques
- Individualised exercise and rehabilitation recommendations to restore strength and confidence
- A personalised programme designed to support your specific goals
